Johns Creek, GA
In direct response to the increasing popularity of lacrosse, the fastest growing sport in the United States, the SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference (“SELC”) and the Convention & Visitors Bureau (“CVB”) of Johns Creek Georgia are excited to announce the expansion of their annual men’s collegiate lacrosse tournament, taking place this year April 23 – 25. The Division l playoffs will consist of eight teams, up from six teams in previous years. The Division ll playoff will remain at 6 teams. The six quarter final games will be held at the newly built Johns Creek High School, as well as Northview High School and Chattahoochee High School. As in previous years, Northview is the host facility and the location for the semifinal and championship rounds for both divisions.
This year marks the 23rd year of the SELC championship event and the sixth consecutive year it has been held in the City of Johns Creek Georgia, located approximately 25 miles north of downtown Atlanta. As the sole Title Sponsor of this special weekend-long event, the Johns Creek CVB has been an active partner of the SELC and instrumental in the promotion and overall success of the event. Platinum Sponsors, providing financial, operational and organizational support, include; Longhorn Steakhouse, LaxWorld, 790 The Zone Radio, Hyatt Place and Hilton Garden Inn. The State of Georgia continues its support of the event and the sport; it is anticipated that Governor Sonny Perdue will declare April 24 “Georgia Lacrosse Day”, as he has for each of the last five years.
The Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) is a national organization of college club lacrosse programs. The MCLA currently operates in the US and Canada with 213 teams in two divisions, across ten conferences.
The SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference (“SELC”) is the largest of the ten MCLA conferences, consisting of nineteen DI and eighteen DII teams. Last year’s champions include Florida State for DI and Emory University in DII.
