Clemson Attackman Will Patch honored with All-America Selection
Clemson, SC: Will Patch, co-captain of the 2011 Clemson Men’s Lacrosse Team, was honored as an Honorable Mention All American at attack by the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) as announced on Saturday, May 21st at the MCLA National Championships in Denver, CO.
Patch led the Tigers in scoring for the 2011 season, totaling 72 points on 41 goals and 31 assists, averaging 4.8 points per game, good for 14th in the country. He was recognized as 2nd Team All SELC (SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference) and also made the SELC All Tournament team as well as being selected the Offensive MVP of the 2011 SELC Championship Tournament. Clemson advanced to the SELC championship game, falling to Florida State 11-6.
Patch, a Landon School graduate who calls Potomac, MD. home, is an academic senior but will be returning to complete his athletic eligibility in the 2012 season. He has led Clemson in scoring each year he has played, totaling 174 points (103 goals and 71 assists) and has averaged over 4 points a game throughout his career.
“Having Will back for a fourth year will be a bonus for this team, especially when you consider that we will also return linemates Chris Buechele (Charleston, SC/Wando) and James McLoughlin (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach),” says head coach Buff Grubb. “Chris also received 2nd team All Conference recognition, also made the All Tournament team, and was elected a team co-captain. He finished 2nd on the team in scoring, with 64 points on 34 goals and 30 assists. James was having an equally strong year, scoring 29 points in 6 games before suffering a season-ending ACL injury. He’s since had surgery and is on course to return next spring.”
“With these 3 attackmen Clemson will have one of the most balanced and dynamic attack units in the country,” states Grubb. “As potent as they were this year, next year could be explosive given they’ve had a year to get to know one another. We’ve got some holes to fill at the defensive end due to graduation but offensively we should be a load to handle.”
Clemson Men’s Lacrosse finished 14-2 in 2011 and ranked #15th nationally in the adidas Top23 and #13th Prodigy Coaches Poll.
