SMU 2012 Outlook
MCLA The Lax Mag joined the Southern Methodist lacrosse the team inside Gerald J. Ford Stadium to take in a practice. The traditional lacrosse and abstract cross fit style of Head Coach Karl Lynch are fused together in the ensuing video.
This spring the Mustangs will feature a very young team. “Well over half the players on the team are freshman,” said Head Coach Karl Lynch. “How well they adapt to the speed and pressure of the college game will be critical to our team’s success this year.”
The team will be anchored in goal by senior captain Cary Nelson. Lengthy defensemen Cam Banta and Niko Lundeen will help keep the Mustang defense together on the back line. Running the midfield will be Culver Academy product John Sabo and Seton Hall Prep’s Cole Sisto.
All three starting attack positions will be fielded by freshman. “It’s unusual to have a starting unit that is comprised of only freshman,” joked Coach Lynch. “We will see how they progress throughout the season, but the are fearless and fun to watch.”
In addition to its LSA schedule, the Mustangs will play a non-conference schedule of Loyola Marymount, Claremont, San Diego State, Cal Poly and Colorado State.
