2011 MCLA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

May 17-21, 2011 in Denver, Colorado

For the third consecutive year, the MCLA National Championships was held at Dick's Sporting Goods Park near Denver, CO. The five day event hosted the MCLA's top 32 teams as they battled for the 2011 National Championship in two divisions.

MCLA Season Begins

The 2012 MCLA season is officially underway with games this weekend in California, Texas, the Southeast and one lonely game in frigid, Western PA. Already players are recording big numbers on the field.

In Div I, Pitt handled NCAA Div 3 La Roche College in a evening scrimmage. Even with the loss of graduating senior standout, #10 David Drehoff, Central Florida put up 32 goals in a cross-division game against the University of North Florida. Texas State midfielder, #4 Clark Dansby picks up right where he left off in 2011 with 5 points in his season opener at home versus Texas Tech. South Carolina, Auburn and Rice all recorded victories on this first day of play.

In Div II, the biggest victor is #21 Kennesaw State with a 9-2 win over Div I opponent, Georgia Tech. Midfielder, #9 Casey Newton (KSU) led the way with 4 goals and senior goalie, #15 Andrew Flood (KSU) recorded 16 saves on 18 shots for a 0.889 save percentage. Michael Mann starts off his senior campaign with with a 5 point game (4g 1a) against instate Div I opponent, Baylor in a 13-10 victory. His teammate, 2011 MCLA 2nd Team All-America honoree, #91 Zachary Fry added 3 goals. Cal Lutheran midfielder, #7 Samie Ibrahim had a stellar performance against Marymount College with 4 goals and 3 assists. Occidental and St. Edward’s started the season with divisional victories in the SLC and LSA, respectively.

There are 60 games on tap this week with #18 Simon Frasier, #12 Florida State, #4 Champman, Southern Methodist and #22 Arizona all getting started in Div I. An early season big game match-up between pre-season ranked #20, St. Mary’s and #14, Cal State Fullerton is scheduled for February 3rd. Div II, South Carolina hopefuls #3 Dayton, #12 Concordia and Hope start their 2012 run at the National Championships.
