BYU To Open 2012 Season With Three Games In Three Days
PROVO, Utah — The No. 1 BYU Men’s Lacrosse team will seek to defend the National Title as they open their 2012 season by playing three games in a three-day period.
The first game will be at home against the University of Nevada, Las Vegas on Thursday Feb. 9 at 7:00 p.m. MST North University Lacrosse Field in Provo.
“We have been working hard to prepare for three games in three days,” said BYU Head Coach Matt Schneck. “We are excited for UNLV to come to Provo for the first time in many years and to continue our annual tradition with Boise State and Simon Fraser. We anticipate an exciting weekend of lacrosse.”
The Cougars will head out early Friday morning to Boise where they will face the Boise State Broncos on the famous blue field of Bronco Stadium.
Boise State Head Coach Paul Rocchio said he and his team are excited to face BYU.
“Coach Schneck and his staff have been very helpful and we are looking forward to it,” Rocchio said. “We have a very young lacrosse community here in Boise, and our boys want to be nationally competitive but we can’t do that unless we play nationally competitive teams. I think it’s great that Coach Schneck is willing to travel and play us.”
BYU’s third game in as many days will feature BYU vs. Simon Fraser University of British Columbia, also at Bronco Stadium.
Simon Fraser Head Coach Brent Hoskins said the matchup will serve as a good benchmark for his team early in the season.
“We’ve started off the season ranked No. 18 and we are looking to get back in the top 10,” Hoskins said. “We’ve built a respectful rivalry with BYU in the past and they are a team we always look to get on our schedule. We try to schedule fairly aggressively each season to prepare our team for an MCLA title.”
BYU vs. Boise State will begin at 4:00 p.m. MST Friday; BYU vs. Simon Fraser will face off at 2:00 p.m. MST Saturday.
The Brigham Young University Men’s Lacrosse Team is a proud member of the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA). The Cougars have won four MCLA National Championship Titles – 1997, 2000, 2007 and 2011, and have been honored with over 100 All-Americans who have proudly worn the Y.
