New Head Coach Dave Sanford comes to Portland State after serving for three years as the Head Coach at Wilsonville High School (Wilsonville, OR). Coach Sanford brings over 30 years of lacrosse experience as a player and coach and is proud to become a Viking. “PSU provides an incredible opportunity for me as a coach to build the next great MCLA program in the Northwest – right in the heart of Portland,” says Sanford, “the school offers a tremendous opportunity for players to compete at the MCLA Division-1 level, enjoy a rich education in the heart of one of America’s most incredible cities, and build lifelong relationships with an incredible group of young men.”
Following Coach Sanford from Wilsonville High School are Assistant Head Coach Kyle Virding, and Defensive Coordinator Garry Falor. Coach Virding has served as Assistant Head Coach at Wilsonville for the past three seasons. He has also served as JV Head Coach and Assistant Head Coach at both Marist Catholic School (Eugene, OR) and Southridge High School (Beaverton, OR). Coach Virding is looking forward to coaching at the collegiate level because, “as a teacher, [he loves] having the opportunity to coach in a higher education setting while being able to work with some exceptionally talented lacrosse players and coaches.”
Coach Falor also comes from Wilsonville High School having served for the past three seasons as the Defensive Coordinator. Coach Falor brings with him a wealth of knowledge gained as a previous coach at the NCAA level with Denison University (Granville, OH). Additionally, Falor brings with him experience having won a national championship in his collegiate career. Playing at both Herkimer (Herkimer, NY) and Salisbury (Salisbury, MD). Coach Falor says he is, “joining the Vikings lacrosse program as a passionate coach who enjoys the game, and is inspired by the energy of the staff and the talent level of the student athletes.”
The new coaching staff is already on the hunt for incoming talent and is greatly looking forward to the opportunity to experience coaching in the MCLA with the exemplary student athletes already on the roster, while continuing to build a sustainable and successful program.
