2014 SELC Preseason Poll

GEORGIA PICKED TO REPEAT IN SELC DI; NOD GOES TO ELON IN DII

Atlanta, GA:  Defending champion University of Georgia was the pick to repeat in the SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference Division I 2014 Preseason Poll. The Bulldogs tallied 27 points and 7 #1 picks in the poll. In Division II Elon University was favored to win the conference DII crown.

In Division 1, Georgia was followed by Virginia Tech in the voting with the Hokies earning 43 points and one pick as conference champions. Clemson University ranked 3rd with 56 points and one pick, followed closely by the Florida State at 59 points. The Seminoles did not receive a pick as conference champs.  Georgia Tech claimed the 5th spot with 62 points and one nod for the crown. The 6th through 10th spots were held by South Carolina (109 points/ 1 pick), Central Florida (126 points), Liberty (145 points), Auburn (150 points), and North Carolina State (153 points).  The University of Florida was tied with Wake Forest at 159 points but also received two picks for DI champion. The University of South Florida received a single pick for conference champion and ranked 14th.

Georgia (SW), Virginia Tech (NW), Florida State (SE), and Clemson (NE) were picked as regional champions followed respectively by:  Georgia Tech (SW), Liberty (NW), Central Florida (SE), and South Carolina (NE).

2013-ST-ANDREWS-SCADThe race was picked a bit tighter in SELC Division II with Elon getting the top nod with 32 points and 4 picks for the crown, edging out Palm Beach Atlantic at 35 points and one pick. There was not a lot of separation for teams picked third through fifth with St Andrews 2 points back at 37 and did not receive a pick as conference champs, trailed by Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) at 43 with 4 picks and Florida Gulf Coast at 51 along with two picks for the crown. Following were Tennessee Wesleyan at 71 points followed by Reinhardt at 76 and Kennesaw State at 110.

Regionally, St Andrews was picked atop the NorthEast followed by Coastal Carolina and The Citadel. In the NorthWest, Elon got the nod over Davidson while in the SouthWest, Tennessee Wesleyan edged Reinhardt for the crown by 1 point. In the SouthEast, Palm Beach had a 2 point advantage over SCAD with Florida Gulf Coast 7 points back.

The SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference (SELC) is a charter conference member of the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA). In 2012, the SELC celebrated its 25th year of collegiate lacrosse championships in the southeastern United States. The SELC consists of 40 member institutions from 10 states and the District of Columbia and serves 1500+ student-athletes. The 27th SELC Championship Tournament will be played April 25-27, 2014 in Johns Creek, GA.
