SAN ANTONIO – Racing out to a comfortable lead and hanging on down the stretch, La.-Lafayette captured the 2016 Lone Star Alliance (LSA) championship with an 11-8 victory over UT-Dallas on Sunday afternoon.

The two teams spent the first nine minutes of the game feeling each other out, but the goals starting rolling in the second quarter. The Ragin’ Cajuns (11-4) led 5-1 at the half, taking advantage of numerous UTD (10-2) turnovers.

The lead expanded to as many as seven goals (9-2) early in the fourth quarter, but the Comets made a hard charge at the end. UTD finished on a 6-2 run, but the La.-Lafayette lead was never really in jeopardy.

It is the first conference championship for the Ragin’ Cajuns. The LSA does not have an automatic qualifying berth in the 2016 MCLA National Championship powered by Under Armour, but the Cajuns are eligible for an at-large berth. The brackets will be announced on the evening of Sunday, May 1.
