PITTSBURGH – For the fifth consecutive year, Michigan State is the Division I champion of the Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association (CCLA) after the Spartans rolled past Davenport, 11-6, on Saturday afternoon in Highmark Stadium.
With the win, Michigan State (7-4) earns a bid to the 2016 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour, which will take place from May 9-14 in Orange County, Calif. This will be the Spartans' seventh straight trip to nationals and they will find out about seeding and matchups tomorrow evening, Sunday, May 1.
Michigan State tied up with Davenport at three apiece after one period of play, but thanks to hat tricks from senior middie Kevin Horton and sophomore attackman Stevie McKee, Michigan State built an 11-4 lead after three quarters.
The Panthers scored the only two goals of the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough.
