ATLANTA – With defending national champion Chapman taking a pair of losses in its first three games, Cal Poly – last year’s runner-up – has assumed the No. 1 spot in the first regular season Under Armour MCLA Division I poll.

Using its stifling defense, the Mustangs are off to a 4-0 start, including a 4-3 victory over No. 15 UC Santa Barbara last weekend. They were awarded 16 first place votes.

Colorado (1-0) jumped into the second spot, claiming four first place votes, while Georgia Tech took third with one first place vote.

Brigham Young (2-0) and Grand Canyon (0-0) round out the Top 5.

Utah, which handed Chapman its first loss, grabbed the remaining first place vote, helping move the Utes from unranked to No. 13. Chapman plummeted to No. 12.

Southern Methodist and New Hampshire fell out of the preseason poll, making way for Utah and Minnesota.
