CHELSEA, Mich. – Second-seeded Dayton raced out to a seven-goal first half lead and fought off a second half charge from top seed Grand Valley State, giving the Flyers a 13-11 victory and the 2017 CCLA Division II title.

The CCLA is not eligible for an automatic berth to the MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour, which runs from May 8-13 in Orange County, Calif., but both the Flyers and Lakers are expected to receive at-large bids.

Dayton was able to build a 9-2 lead midway through the contest, and it proved to be a hole just deep enough to keep Grand Valley State – which beat the Flyers during the regular season, 14-9 – from coming all the way back.

The brackets for the MCLA Division II championships will be released on Sunday evening on MCLA.us.
