SAN FRANCISCO – Cal Poly and Cal put together a pair of outstanding seasons in 2017, and now the Mustangs and Bears are in a dead heat as co-favorites in Division I of the Western Collegiate Lacrosse League (WCLL).

Both Cal Poly (16-3) and Cal (16-3) advanced to the MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour, and each was awarded 60 points in the coaches preseason poll.

The two programs split the eight first place votes.

The Mustangs swept the season series last year, downing the Bears, 13-10, in the regular season before capturing the WCLL title with a 10-8 triumph. Cal advanced further in the postseason, making its first semifinal appearance since 2000.

Sonoma State (10-6) sits firmly in third place, 14 points clear of Stanford (4-11), which rounds out the top four teams.
