LA CROSSE, Wis. – There is just something about Fridays in the MCLA so far this year.

For the second straight week we’ve been treated to upsets and thrilling contests at seemingly every turn. I’m not complaining; it’s just tough to take it all in.

SATURDAY'S SCHEDULE

No. 15 Boston College was at the root of the hijinks. For the second straight Friday, the Eagles knocked off the No. 6 team in the country. Last week it was Georgia Tech. This week it was Arizona State, 12-11.

BC still has to take on Arizona tonight and top-ranked Grand Canyon on Monday, but a split in those games and the Eagles could be knocking on the Top 10’s door.

Speaking of Georgia Tech, the ninth-ranked Yellow Jackets suffered another Friday night setback, this time to No. 22 Florida State, 10-7. Not good for Tech, good for the ‘Noles and fantastic for South Carolina.

The Gamecocks don’t play the Wreck, but hammered FSU, 19-5.

No. 2 Chapman pulled away from No. 5 Colorado late to win, 15-11, but this game delivered everything we expected. Dylan Garner confirmed his bona fides and the Buffs proved they are a Top 10 outfit.

It wasn’t a great night for the RMLC in general as CU’s loss was compounded by No. 21 Oregon hammering No. 10 Colorado State, 12-4.

The result raises a lot of questions about the Rams while it steadied the Ducks’ boat after two straight losses, including a bad home loss to unranked Boise State.

No. 16 Concordia-Irvine dispatched No. 19 Simon Fraser, 18-13, setting up a beauty with Chapman next weekend with control of the SLC North on the line.

In ranked D-II action, No. 18 Missouri State blanked St. Louis, 12-0.

ODDS & ENDS: Grand Canyon turned in a workmanlike performance against Georgia, downing the Bulldogs, 13-6…Oklahoma won the rematch of last year’s LSA semifinal matchup, 12-7…Utah-Southern Methodist contest is scheduled to be streamed by the StickStar guys at noon CST…obviously, ESPN3 will have the Liberty-WVU game at 3 p.m. EST…Colorado State will look to bounce back against a good Oregon State outfit…No. 17 San Diego matches up with No. 23 UC Davis in a big D-II contest.
