Cal Captures WCLL-I Title

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – In a defensive struggle, California outlasted Cal Poly, 6-4, to capture the 2018 Western Collegiate Lacrosse League (WCLL) Division I championships at Rancho Cotate High School on Sunday.
With the win, the Golden Bears (11-5) automatically qualify for the 2018 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour, which will be held in Salt Lake City from May 7-12.
Locked in a 2-2 tie at halftime, Cal managed to outscore the Mustangs (8-9) 3-2 in the third period to bring a 5-4 lead into the final frame.
The Bears pitched a shutout in the final 15 minutes while tacking on an insurance goal. It was the first WCLL championship for Cal in 18 years.
