SPARKS, Md. -- Defending national champion South Carolina, which graduated several stars but still features plenty of talent, checks in at No. 1 in the Nike/US Lacrosse MCLA Division I Preseason Top 20. The rankings are published in the January edition of US Lacrosse Magazine.

The Gamecocks lost national tournament MVP Colin Hains in goal, and replacing him is a pressing matter. But there's some talent returning in front of the cage, making South Carolina the early favorite to repeat in 2020.

Checking in at No. 2 is Cal, led by US Lacrosse MCLA Division I Preseason Player of the Year Jake Pistotnik, followed by Chapman, Georgia Tech and Liberty, respectively.

Rankings are compiled by US Lacrosse Magazine staff and contributors, with input from college coaches. The full list of teams appears below.
