On a cool night that looked as if it might rain, a strong U of Arizona wildcats team hosted VT on their beautiful grass field. U of A legend Mickey Miles Felton was there to cheer on his former team. Virginia Tech jumped out to an early lead, scoring the first 4 goals before Arizona could get on the board. VT continued to control the game throughout the first half so that the halftime score was 9-4. The second half started with 2 VT goals and it seemed that VT had control of the game. However, Arizona scored 3 quick goals midway through the third quarter and this started a strong comeback. Led by Schenpp, Strode and Filmore, the wildcats made the balance of the game a tough contest. They clawed back from the 11-7 score to 11-9 by the end of the third quarter. Over the first half of the final quarter, the two teams traded goals with VT scoring each time followed by an Arizona goal. Arizona could not seem to close the gap and Virginia Tech could not seem to put the game away. The wildcats finally got the score to 13-12 and then Hokies scored 3 straight to make the score 16-12. The wildcats managed 2 more goals between 2:10 and 0:40 to go in the game but the VT lead was too much to overcome.
