SEATTLE -- Junior attackman Sean Forsyth registered a game-high seven points on two goals and five assists to lead Washington to a 16-7 victory over Boise State in an MCLA Division I game Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore attackman Steve Frankel added six points on four goals and two assists, junior attackman Jacob Sonkin had five points on three goals and two assists and senior middie Nick Tierney finished with four points on two goals and two assists to help the Huskies (2-0) win their second straight to start the season.
Sophomore middie Joe Cramer scored two goals, and freshman middie Jake Bos and freshman defenseman Casey Weisner each added a goal apiece for Washington.
Washington started the game with a five-goal run and never trailed en route to a comfortable win. Forsyth repeatedly ran behind the cage to draw defenders and then dodged out to dish to his open teammates.
“We feel good about the win,” Washington head coach Stewart Kerns said. “We have some Xs and Os to work on, but overall we’re satisfied.”
In a losing effort, senior attackman Pat McIntyre registered a team-high five points on two goals and three assists, senior attackman Teddy Hicks scored two goals and dished two assists and freshman attackman Jeremy Bradburn had a pair of goals for Boise State (0-2), which lost its second straight.
Junior middie Aaron Garrison also scored a goal for the Broncos.
Defensively, senior goalie Shawn Carman saved 21 shots. Carman has saved 45 shots in Boise State’s first two games.
Boise State had 12 man-up opportunities, but the Broncos only took advantage twice. The Broncos struggled with ground balls and face-offs, and they turned the ball over several times. As a result, Washington dominated possession.
“Back to the basics,” Boise State assistant coach Tony Day said. “We got ahead of ourselves. Now it’s back to the drawing board.”
