EUGENE, Ore. -- Senior middie Jon Matusiefsky scored two goals and dished three assists to lead No. 7 Oregon to a 17-3 victory over Boise State in an MCLA Division I game Saturday afternoon.
Junior attackman Justin Blackmore added four goals, junior attackman Chad Loescher had three points on two goals and an assist and junior middie Erik Lyneis scored two goals to help the Ducks (4-2) win their third straight.
Sophomore Robert McLellarn scored two goals, freshman attackman Sean Silverstein added two points on a goal and an assist and sophomore middie Kevin Clark, junior attackman Alex Craighead and junior middie Brett Whyte all scored once to round out the scoring for the Ducks.
Oregon trailed at the end of the first quarter before going on an eight-goal run to take control.
“We always start out flat,” Matusiefsky said. “That run was what we needed, and we took off from there.”
In defeat, sophomore middie Jake Christensen dished two assists, and junior attackman Kyle Moulin, senior middie Pat McIntyre and freshman attackman Jeremy Bradburn all scored once for Boise State (0-3).
Boise State led 2-1 going into the second quarter, but Silverstein sparked Oregon’s game-changing burst when he dodged to the crease, faked left and shot right and scored. That started a run that extended into the third quarter.
Oregon scored five goals in the final two minutes of the first half, including a highlight-reel tally by Clark, who dodged through a triple team.
Boise State, which didn’t score again until it had a three-man advantage in the third quarter, also lost junior middie Kevin Kaup in the second quarter. Kaup left the game with a leg injury and was taken to a local hospital.
“We saw some of the team we can be in the first quarter,” Carman said. “But we lost momentum and Kaup in the second, and we never came back.”
Boise State is a team that improves their level of play every year. I am excited to see where their development takes them.
