On Michigan Lacrosse:"I certainly relished the opportunity to play this game. It's was my first chance to match up against Coach Paul and I enjoyed it very much. Given the strength of their program, we were shooting for a 16-8 game. We game close, and met several of our team goals. Certainly one of the best in-conference results of anyone the past two years. The kids understand that neither Rome nor Michigan was built in a day. This game sets a benchmark for where we can be in 5 years. There are a lot of WMU alumni that remember when this wasn’t an automatic W on their schedule.”
On the clear: "I thought our guys did a hell of a job against a very tough ride. It reminded me of a ride I had seen Denver run in the past. Plus we hadn't practiced against the 10 man until about 5:20 Friday evening. I am a bit disappointed we only scored 2 goals when Michigan gave us that look to exploit. The guys had the gist of it, but we just were inefficient at hitting our target at the top of the box. More traditional Gilman and less dump and run hockey. What helped us was if we missed our opportunity a very talented team has to expend energy clearing, and not running 6v6. Next year we will have more than 20 minutes of work on it."
On the struggles this year:"As a coach you don't want to say you are satisfied with an 11 goal loss. But I am extremely proud of the effort and energy the kids put into this game. We've had five losses by 2 goals or less, two of them coming in overtime. Our returners next year will understand better what it takes to compete against the best. The expectations this year were for a playoff berth and MAC superiority. Neither was met, but next year the expectations don’t change. Just the results."
