Game Commentary Provided by Teams

In a neutral site game at Gilbert High School near Phoenix, AZ, a very physical BYU posted a sound win over the Virginia Tech Hokies. The game was hard fought the whole way but the Cougars overpowered the Hokies, particularly in the first half.
Virginia Tech opened the game scoring at 4 minutes into the first quarter and the teams traded goals to make the score 2-2 with 4:20 left in the quarter when the Cougars went on a 3 goal in one minute and 20 second run that put them in the lead for good. The Hokies scored first in the second period but the Cougars dominated the quarter and built an 11-5 half time lead.
Following some halftime defensive adjustments, the Hokies played the Cougars nearly even during the second half but could not manage to mount a comeback. Each team scored only once in the third period and while the Hokies scored first in the fourth period, BYU had and maintained control of the game to finish with a solid 16-7 win.
