Inadequate field conditions led to Alabama being a man-up for the first 3 mins of the game but they were unable to capitalize. Memphis actually had a 3-1 lead in the 1st quarter before Alabama settled in. After that the Alabama defense tightened up and only allowed 2 more goals in the 1st half. Meanwhile, the offense woke up and started scoring at will. A strong riding and clearing game, solid goaltending, great groundball work, and dominating faceoff play were all keys to the victory. Thanks to Memphis for hosting, and good luck the rest of the season.
Weather begat poor field conditions that begat unknown rugby field construction, which gave Memphis a 3 minute penalty to start the game but staved off every attack admirably. Memphis played a great first quarter and a solid 4th, but a lot of 1-on-1 play, centered around #61, Andrew Wood, took the Tigers down a peg in their home opener. There were many teachable moments for the very young Tiger squad. Bama played well. All players played like gentlemen. Memphis thanks Bama for the travel. See you next year in Tuscaloosa. NEXT GAME: MTSU @ MEMPHIS - Friday, February 12, at 6pm.
