Ft. Worth TX - The 2010 Centenary Gents lacrosse season got off to a cold start in both temperature and play with a 15-2 loss to MCLA Division 1 Texas Christian University. Considering seven new starters, the Gents can use this experience toward their Division 2 Lone Star Alliance title hopes. Scoring for Centenary were Sophomore Midfielder Michael Hiller and Freshman Attack/Midfielder Noel Veneracion. As has been the case since Centenary's first MCLA game, goalie Daniel Ewing played strong in net.
The front and back line for Centenary have been completely revamped for year two. Sophomore Alex Tan has moved from attack to captain the defense alongside Freshmen Harry Chiang and Everett Grimley. At attack three Mustangs from Caddo Magnet, Colton Cowley, Taylor McCook and David Lee will attempt to carry the offensive load left by 2009 Centenary grad and fellow Mustang, Adam Mastrodomenico.
With temperatures reaching into the lower 30's, the Gents scheduled their season opener with the toughest opponent of the season. The offensive power of the Horned Frogs put them up 5-0 in the first quarter. In the mid second quarter Hiller finished on an outside bounce shot to start the season scoring. In a testament to the relentless play considering the circumstances, Veneracion's goal in the fourth came off turnover in the TCU clearing game and was put in on an open net. Defensive mid fielders Adam Nerio and Matthew Bumgardner kept the score closer than it could have been in front of Ewing.
The Gents travel to Austin to play St Edwards next Saturday at 12pm.
