Vandal lacrosse opened its 2010 season with a victory over a spirited Whitman Missionaries squad in Walla Walla, WA. While six different Vandals found the back of the net, freshman attack Kyle Morse (Moscow, ID / Logos High School) led all scorers with 7 points (4g, 3a). Close behind were senior midfielder Krieg Shaw (4g, 2a) and junior attack Eric Fletcher (4g, 1a).
Whitman kept the game close early, coming out with high energy and a physical game plan. Idaho led only 2-0 at the end of the first quarter. During the second frame, however, Idaho found its offensive stride and took a 9-1 lead into halftime.
Despite the deficit, the Missionaries remained undaunted and came out firing in the third quarter. Whitman would at one point score 3 unanswered points behind standout attack Bidman Lee. Nevertheless, the Vandals regained control of the game behind outstanding play from its “legion of doom” defense.
Idaho would like to thank Whitman for being excellent hosts wish the Missionaries good luck on the rest of their season. The Vandals continue their 2010 campaign next weekend against Oregon State and Portland State.

A beautiful day in Walla Walla for a lacrosse game. Whitman managed to keep it close after the first quarter, but Idaho really blew it open in the second and Whitman never really drew it very close from there. It was a physical game with both teams going after ground balls with a lot of energy, but Whitman just couldn't keep up with the Vandals' firepower, especially at the midfield position.
Admirable performances by both our goalies, who split playing time by halves, with Stephen Toyofuku manning the cage in the first half and Luigi Lollini in the second half. Good performance by our long poles, especially Ben Skotheim, who is a freshman to watch this year. Bidnam Lee, playing through a torn ligament in his thumb managed to put up 4 points on 5 Whitman goals.
Congratulations to Aedan Weber on scoring 2 goals in his college debut.
Finally, good luck to a classy Vandals team on the rest of their season.
