Fall ball has started and that means it is time for our Fall Check-In series to return. We start with the Georgia Bulldogs who are coming off a quarterfinal appearance at the MCLA National Championships Presented by New Balance last season. We checked in with new head coach Lou Corsetti.
MCLA: You’re new to the MCLA, I know it’s early but what has your initial impression been so far of the team and the league as a whole?
Lou Corsetti: Very familiar with the MCLA and especially the SELC as I supported some programs as the Regional Director for USA Lacrosse for ten years. I believe the MCLA is well run and gives young men an opportunity to play the game they love without the stringent requirements of NCAA programs.
MCLA: You’re taking over a program that played for an SELC title last year, but came up just short and then advanced to the quarterfinals at the MCLA National Championships Presented by New Balance what are you trying to bring to the program to help push them further?
LC: I hope my over 40 years of coaching knowledge, organizational experience and allowing our players to be creative while having fun and competing in one of the most competitive conferences.
MCLA: What are the schedule highlights? Any big trips?
LC: We are playing The University of California and Sonoma State University and traveling across the country to compete with two very solid programs.
MCLA: What are you most looking forward to about your first season at Georgia?
LC: Building relationships with these young men and helping them with their lacrosse journey but more importantly instilling in them some of my wisdom on being a great husband, great father and solid citizen in their communities when they get married and start their families and careers.
MCLA: Your team graduated a strong senior class, how is the team adjusting to and filling that leadership void?
LC: We just finished tryouts and I was very impressed with the talent level. We have several strong incoming Freshmen and our defense and goalies will be one of our strongest units. Lots of good middies and our attack with be solid.
Thanks to Coach Corsetti for taking the time to answer our questions. Coaches, if you want your program to be featured in our Fall Check-In series send a note to info@mcla.us.
