Arizona Knocks Off San Diego State

TUCSON, Ariz. -- No. 7 Arizona defeated No. 21 San Diego State, 7-5, on Friday night at Sitton Field. The win improves the Laxcat's record to 7-2 and 1-1 in conference play.

The Aztecs got on the board first, but within a few minutes the Cats responded with a goal from sophomore midfielder Zach Rogers to tie the game. SDSU found the back of the net again to end the quarter to go up 2-1. Freshman Shane Crownhart stuck a goal early in the second to tie the game at two. Once again, SDSU scored to go up 3-2. After several shots on offense, junior Christian Turri stung a goal to tie the game at three heading into the half.

Jerome Rigor scored the first of two goals in the third period to give Arizona a one goal cushion. Not long after SDSU evened the score up. Rigor scored again to give Arizona a one goal lead going into the fourth quarter leading 5-4.

Turri and freshman Brad Moeller gave Arizona a three-goal lead midway through the fourth off two great shots. SDSU scored a late goal, but in the end Arizona held on to the 7-5 victory.

Arizona will face defending national champions Grand Canyon this Saturday, April 9 at Sitton Field. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
