AUBURN, Ala. -- After eight years as the head coach of Auburn, J.J. Arminio has stepped down.

Arminio will be taking over the NIL collective for the university, making it time to move on from the program. Taking over as the new head man will be former defensive coordinator Britton Short.

"Coaching at my alma mater was a dream come true," Arminio said. "I fell in love with this league when I was a player. I'm thankful I was able to give back to it in some way.

"Auburn is on an upward path and we've seen it grow competitively since we returned. Elevating Britton to head coach and maintaining the staff that was there will help with the ease of the transition. Britton knows the players. The players know him.

Auburn finished the 2025 season with a 7-8 record and qualified for the SELC tournament. In his time as the Tigers' head man, Auburn posted a 55-39 record with three visits to the conference tournament.

"Wins and losses were always the easiest thing to judge success by," Arminio said. "But the family dinners cooked by my wife, the relationships my family has made over the years, the hundreds of 'big brothers' my sons have now, and the friendships that last to today -- that was always our mission. It was Kingdom work. We feel like we left it in a better spot than when we found it."

Short has been with the program since 2023, guiding the Tigers' defense.

"I am extremely excited and overwhelmingly humbled to follow some incredible footsteps and begin my journey as the head coach of this program," he said. "We are headed to some great places. I feel it in my bones."
