ATLANTA- Utah Valley junior defenseman Jack Baird has twice earned first team All-America honors and entered Friday’s showdown with Brigham Young knowing the game would be a stiff test. Baird finished the game with four caused turnovers, four groundballs, one goal, and one assist putting his fingerprints all over the game. Baird was crucial for the Wolverines in settled defense, transition, their riding game, and clearing. Behind Baird, the Draper, Utah native, the Wolverines held Brigham Young to their lowest goal output of the season. For his efforts Baird has been named Warrior MCLA Division I Player of the Week.
Utah Valley head coach Colin Maxfield said, “Jack has been lights out since he stepped on campus three years ago. He draws the number one matchup each week and is asked to quarterback our defense. Not only does he consistently win that matchup, he is causing turnovers (3.5 per game), picking up GBs, pushing transition and cashing in on the other end. The last two seasons Jack was voted a captain unanimously by his teammates for the way that he leads our team by example on a daily basis.”
In honor of being named Warrior MCLA Division Player of the Week Baird will receive a Warrior Burn XP2-O head – a $120 value. Warrior is a proud sponsor of the MCLA.
