ATLANTA- UNC-Wilmington freshman netminder Luke Barnett stepped into the cage for his first college game and made a statement.  First game jitters did not get to Barnett as he tallied 11 saves and only allowed three goals in addition to corralling seven ground balls.  Barnett helped lead the Seahawks to an 18-7 win over Virginia Tech DII.  The Seahawks lead 15-3 after three quarters when Barnett left the game.  Barnett’s performance earned him MCLA Division II PEARL Goalie of the Week honors.

Seahawks head coach Will Farrow said, “Barnett put together one heck of a weekend. We have 4 really capable goalies but Barno, as we call him, gives us an added bonus of how versatile he is on the clear. It was hard to pick a starter, they can all make saves, but Barnett’s athletic ability gives us an advantage that few teams have. He was lock down in between the pipes, and a leader handling the rock on clears. Oh and he is only a freshman.”

In recognition of his efforts Luke will receive a PEARL swag bag including PEARL lacrosse balls- the official ball of the MCLA.
