ATLANTA- Freshman midfielder Benny Besztery made quite a first impression in his first college game.  The Chicago native went off for five goals and four assists to propel Tampa to a shootout win over the Miami Hurricanes 20-17.  The Spartans hit the ground running in their first game of the season and scored an important region win.

Tampa Coach Ben French said, ” As a freshman, Benny Besztery has immediately provided a spark for our program, elevating competition in practice and carrying that energy into our first game against Miami, proving to be a huge impact in our offense, finishing with five goals and four assists. From day one this past fall, our offensive coordinator, Vinny Mercadante, has been impressed with Benny’s skill, work ethic, and lacrosse IQ. Vinny’s coaching style and offensive systems are a perfect fit for Benny. His approach empowers all of our players, especially our younger guys to play lose and with confidence. Vinny has done an excellent job giving Benny a foundation to showcase his craftiness and creativity on the field. What stands out even more than the numbers is who Benny is as a person, very unselfish, humble, a true competitor making him a pleasure to coach. As a coaching staff, it is incredibly rewarding to see young players make an immediate impact, and it speaks to the optimism and direction of our program. This is only the beginning for Benny, and we are excited for what lies ahead.”

For his efforts earning the Warrior Player of the Week, Besztery will receive a Warrior Burn XP2-O head – a $120 value. Warrior is a proud sponsor of the MCLA.
