ATLANTA – After winning the RMLC championship Brigham Young claims the top seed in the Division I bracket of the MCLA National Championships presented by New Balance  which will be held at the River City (Richmond) Sportsplex from May 4-9.  As the top seed, the Cougars will play No. 16 Michigan State, the champions of the UMLC.

Utah Valley, who suffered their first loss of the season in the RMLC tournament final to Brigham Young after holding the top ranking for most of the season, is the No. 2 seed and will play No. 15 Oregon winners of the PNCLL.

Virginia Tech, the ALC champions, are the No. 3 seed and will face No. 14 Texas who won the LSA tournament.

Florida State, champions of the SELC, are No. 4 and will face Northeastern the CLC champions.

ALC finalists Tennessee are the No. 5 seed and will face No. 12 California who won the WCLL.

South Carolina enters the tournament as the No. 6 seed and will face No. 11 San Diego State runners up in the SLC.

Clemson, fresh off a semifinal run in the ALC, is No. 7 and will play WCLL runners-up UC Santa Barbara.

The match up between Nos. 8-9 will feature Arizona and Georgia respectively after Arizona won the SLC and Georgia lost in the SELC final.

“The conference tournaments had some surprises so the committee had to really look at the body of work for each team,” said MCLA director of competition Gary Podesta. “Any time there are late surprises we have to really consider everything and not be prisoners of the moment.  I think the committee did that and got the bracket right.”
