BYU’s Halverson Grabs Warrior Honor

ATLANTA – Brigham Young swept a pair of ranked teams on the road thanks to the play of Cougars senior attackman Jake Halversen, who was named the MCLA Division I Warrior Player of the Week for the period ending March 17.

The second-ranked Cougars opened the week on Thursday against No. 7 Liberty in Jacksonville, Fla., and the Beaverton, Ore., native scored a pair of goals and set up another as BYU captured the 14-12 victory.

On Saturday, Brigham Young tackled No. 14 Florida and Halversen had a day in the 22-8 triumph. He buried eight goals while setting up a ninth.

For the trip, he finished with 10 goals, two assists and three ground balls.

“Jake leads by example both on and off the field,” said Brigham Young coach Matt Schneck. “He is a complete player with an incredible lacrosse IQ with lacrosse skills and athleticism to match. I review practice plans with Jake and the other team captains to look for feedback, recommendations and to make sure they know what to expect. I value his opinion.

“This past weekend in our game versus Liberty he surpassed 200 career points. A milestone that only a few of the great players at BYU have reached. He will complete his career at BYU as one of the best.

“One of the greatest attributes that Jake has is his selflessness. Whether is he is scoring the goals or creating opportunities for his teammates, it’s all about scoring. This year, the offense has been scoring a lot and we are hoping to keep that trend going. aJake will be a big part of helming make that happen.

For his efforts earning the Warrior Player of the Week, Halversen will receive a Warrior Burn XP2-O – a $120 value. Warrior is a proud sponsor of the MCLA.

Matt Decker, Jr. – Arizona State
In the Sun Devils 1-1 trip to the Peach State, the Novato, Calif., midfielder combined for five goals and four dimes against UGA and Georgia Tech.

Connor Hamilton, Jr. – Michigan State
The Spartans took down Miami (Ohio) and Mizzou helped by a combined seven goals and six assists from the Memphis native.

Jose Martinez, Soph. – Clemson
In the Tigers victory over divisional foe East Carolina, the Raleigh, N.C., product won 15-of-16 faceoffs while grabbing 10 ground balls and burying two goals.

Keaton Mohs, Sr. – Liberty
The Flames split on their trip to Florida aided by a combined seven goals and eight assists from the middie out of Lakeville, Minn.

Joseph Rose, Soph. – Georgia Tech
The Buford, Ga., attackman accounted for half the Yellow Jackets’ goals in the one-goal win over No. 18 Arizona State.

Ryan Sanders, Soph. – Cal Poly
The Mustangs bounced No. 10 Cal thanks to five goals, three assists and three ground balls for the attackman out of Alamo, Calif.

Aaron Tiao, Fr. – Stanford
The rookie out of Kensington, Md., hit for the 10-spot in the win over Nevada, scoring five goals and setting up five others in the triumph.
