ATLANTA – With a monster performance against a ranked opponent, California rookie midfielder Connor Testa has been named the MCLA Division I Warrior Player of the Week for the period ending March 9.
The Golden Bears entertained No. 16 in Berkeley on Saturday and, thanks to the outing from the Manhattan Beach, Calif., native, Cal was able to grab its first ranked victory of the season.
Testa struck for seven goals on the day as the Bears posted the 13-8 triumph. Coming into the game, his career high was one goal.
"It's been a while since a Cal player has been in the zone like Connor was on Saturday,” said Cal coach Ned Webster. “He was quick and twitchy on his dodges, shot seven-of-nine with both hands, and put it where he wanted.
“Credit to Connor's linemates, Henry Perkins and Owen Pettus, for sharing the ball and creating space for him. With so many injuries to key guys, especially at offensive midfield, we've had a 'next man up' mentality and Connor certainly stepped up, and as a freshman no less."
For his efforts earning the Warrior Player of the Week, Testa will receive a Warrior Burn XP2-O head – a $120 value. Warrior is a proud sponsor of the MCLA.
