ATLANTA – The Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA), the premier non-varsity league in North America, and its Hall of Fame committee are pleased to announce the Class of 2025 that will be inducted this spring. The class consists of four players and two coaches who were among the best the MCLA has produced.
The coaching ranks will be bolstered by two individuals who were both part of the association at its inception in 1997. Texas A&M coach Tony Scazzero, who was the longest tenured coach in the MCLA before retiring last spring, and former Michigan coach John Paul, who guided the Wolverines to three consecutive national championships prior to transition Michigan to the NCAA, strengthening the Hall of Fame coaching pantheon. Both Scazzero and Paul were also former presidents of our organizations.
The Class of 2025 will also feature the first two members from Division II. Joe Costello, who played both attack and midfield, was a four-time first-team All-American for St. Thomas and led the Tommies to a pair of national championships in 2009 and ’10. He is joined by Cam Holding of Grand Valley State, who played three years in the MCLA, leading the Lakers to a championship game appearance in 2008 and to the semifinals in ’11. His 2011 campaign (121g, 33a) was one for the ages.
Sonoma State attackman Ben Alexander and Colorado goalie Chris Bluse round out the six-player class. Alexander led the 2002 Seawolves – then the Cossacks – to an MCLA championship. He was a first team All-American while also earning WCLL Offensive Player of the Year. Bluse was a four-time All-American for the Buffaloes, including two nods as a first teamer. He was the anchor for three Colorado appearances at nationals despite going up against a loaded conference.
“This is an absolutely superb class going into the MCLA Hall of Fame this year,” said MCLA president Ken Lovic. “Four game-changing players and two of the best coaches to walk our sidelines. The introduction of a pair of outstanding Division II players opens the door for so many impactful student-athletes.”
