ATLANTA – For the sixth consecutive period this season, Brigham Young is lodged as the top team in Division I according to the MCLA New Balance Weekly Coaches Poll, which was released on Wednesday.
The Cougars (10-0), which will be looking for its 30th and 31st straight victory this weekend when they host No. 14 Colorado (7-3) and No. 19 Colorado State (6-3), captured 21 of the 27 first-place votes.
Sitting at No. 2 and closing the gap quickly with BYU is Liberty (11-1). The Flames dispatched No. 15 Tennessee (8-3) and Kentucky this weekend to run its winning streak to 11, helping them grab the remaining six top ballots.
Fresh off its rivalry win over No. 9 Florida State (9-4), Florida (11-2) remained at No. 3. The Gators will be the top seed out of the South division in the upcoming SELC tourney. Utah Valley (7-2) remained at No. 4 after beating Utah during the week.
Texas (7-3) managed to retain the fifth chair despite getting beat by No. 18 South Carolina (7-6) in Columbia.
After defeating archrival and No. 11 Georgia (8-3), No. 7 Georgia Tech (10-4) was the big mover of the week, up three spots. The Dawgs’ four-rank slide was the biggest tumble.
There were three new additions this week, led by the Gamecocks and followed by Colorado State and No. 20 Texas Christian (8-2). James Madison, Arizona and Grand Canyon were all escorted out of the poll.
