ATLANTA – After grabbing a majority of the first-place votes in the opening ranking, Air Force was the unanimous choice in Week 2 of the MCLA Division II New Balance Weekly Coaches poll, which was released on Wednesday.
The Falcons (5-0) were awarded all 26 first-place votes to create a 40-point cushion between them and No. 2 UC San Diego (6-0). Air Force and the Tritons meet in a one-two showdown on Friday night in America’s Finest City.
Florida Atlantic (6-1) jumps up a pair of spots to No. 3. The Owls face divisional archrival and No. 10 Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday in what could produce the top seed out of the SELC South.
St. Thomas (4-1) picked up its first loss of the season at the hands of Northwest Nazarene (6-2) in double overtime, but the Tommies still managed to stay one spot ahead of the Nighthawks, rounding out the Top 5.
Northwest Nazarene was the big mover of the week, moving up three spots while No. 9 Montana State (3-3) tumbled five positions. No. 8 Grand Valley State (3-0) and No. 20 UC Davis (5-1) entered the poll this week, sending Tampa and UNC-Wilmington to the rail.
