ATLANTA – Four the fourth straight week, UC San Diego is the top team in Division II, although there are contenders lurking close by according to the MCLA New Balance Weekly Coaches Poll, which was released on Wednesday.
The Tritons (11-0), which were awarded 21 of the 27 first-place votes this session, posted a pair of SLC divisional victories last weekend and still have a week until their conference showdown with No. 8 Cal State San Marcos (11-2).
UNC-Charlotte (10-0) sat tight at No. 2 and will conclude its regular season this week with home contests against No. 17 Wake Forest (7-1) and No. 20 Kennesaw State (4-5).
Grand Valley State (10-0) continued its steady climb up the charts, bumping up a pair of spots to No. 3, bolstered by the remaining six first-place ballots. Florida Atlantic (11-2) wrapped up its regular season by beating No. 18 Miami (8-3), but dipped to No. 4 this week. The Owls will be the top seed out of the South subdivision in the upcoming SELC tourney.
Rounding out the Top 5 is Northwest Nazarene (11-2). The Nighthawks posted a win over No. 12 Montana (9-6), but still dropped a spot in the polls.
There were no additions to or departures from the poll.
