ATLANTA – For the second consecutive week, UC San Diego is the top team in the MCLA Division II New Balance Weekly Coaches poll, which was released Wednesday.
The Tritons (7-0) were idle this week and will not leave their home town until mid-April. UCSD took all but one of the 27 votes cast this session.
UNC-Charlotte (8-0) jumped four spots into the No. 2 chair thanks to a 3-0 weekend in Fort Payne, Ala., including a victory over former No. 2 (and current No. 3) Florida Atlantic (9-2).
Northwest Nazarene (8-2) tacked on another two wins this week against Nevada and Chico State, allowing the Nighthawks to leapfrog St. Thomas (5-1) into the No. 4 slot, keeping the Tommies at No. 5.
Air Force (5-2) continued its tumble despite being idle and now sits at No. 6. Grand Valley State (5-0) grabbed the remaining first-place ballot to keep it at No. 7 for a second straight week.
College of Idaho (9-0) was the biggest mover of the week, bounding up six spots from No. 17 to 11.
No. 19 UNC-Wilmington (7-3) and No. 20 Kennesaw State (2-5) entered the poll this session, sending Coastal Carolina (5-4) and UC Davis (5-3) outside the VIP rope.
