ATLANTA – After backstopping Florida Atlantic to an opening-season victory over a Division I outfit, Owl rookie netminder Alexander Acker has garnered PEARL Goalie of the Week honors in Division II for the period ending Feb. 2.
In his first collegiate game, the freshman out of Ann Arbor, Mich., turned away 14 shots to lead FAU to a gritty, 12-7 victory on the road in Tampa.
“We are very excited to have a player of Alex’s caliber on the team,” said Florida Atlantic coach Stavros Neocleous. “He helps elevate our defense and our transition game to another level. Throughout the game against USF, he consistently stole possessions for us.
“Alex also adds another strong leader to our group and gives the coaches another player to rely on in the cage. His consistent talk helps keep the defense in order.”
As the recipient of the PEARL Goalie of the Week honor, Acker will receive a PEARL swag bag of goodies that will include PEARL lacrosse balls – the official ball of the MCLA.
