No. 5 Dayton entered Friday's contest with No. 16 Bridgewater State as heavy favorites, but thanks to a gritty Bears defense, BSU walked away with a 5-4 stunner. It marks the best victory on Bridgewater history.

Other notable Division II action, UT-San Antonio won the first leg of the San Antonio Taco Trophy by knocking off Trinity (Texas), 13-11.

Also, No. 16 Virginia Tech did not survive the evening.

No. 4 BYU is the highest ranked Division I program in action as the Cougars in Vegas to face UNLV before tangling with No. 1 Cal Poly tomorrow.

No. 18 Michigan State held off a fierce rally by No. 23 Minnesota, taking a 10-9 decision in a key CCLA contest. Junior netminder Kevin Boland proved to be the difference as he stopped a pair of late Gopher opportunities with clutch stops. The Spartans have to gear back up for a date with Indiana tomorrow while UM has Oakland.
