ATLANTA – After leading the Lakers to three victories, including a pair of ranked triumphs, on their efficient trip through North Dakota and Minnesota, Grand Valley State sophomore attackman Bryce Gordon is the MCLA Division II Warrior Player of the Week for the period ending April 6.
The fifth-ranked Lakers kicked off the weekend on Friday night against No. 13 North Dakota State in Fargo. Bolstered by two goals and four assists from the Rockford, Mich., product, the Lakers pulled away for the 14-6 victory.
Gordon posted four goals and five assists in a comfy win over St. John’s on Saturday before GVSU took on sixth-ranked St. Thomas on Sunday in a rematch of the semifinals at the 2024 MCLA National Championships presented by New Balance. Gordon factored in on over half the Lakers’ production – six goals and a dime – in a 13-7 Grand Valley win.
For the weekend, Gordon amassed 12 goals, 10 assists and four ground balls.
“Bryce is a complete attackman,” said Grand Valley State coach Tim Murray. “His ability to attack the cage, distribute the ball appropriately, and his effort in our ride creates opportunities for both himself and his teammates. He is a threat with both hands, and understands how to diagnose how defenses are playing, which makes him a tough matchup and keeps defenses honest.
“This weekend, Bryce demonstrated that he was a multi-tool player with the way he distributed the ball against NDSU and St. John’s. On Sunday against St. Thomas, he took matters into his own hands, and was able to capitalize on his scoring opportunities against an extremely talented defense, and one of the best goalies in the nation.
“Bryce brings an element of maturity and toughness to our offense. He is a truly selfless player who is willing to do whatever it takes for the team to be successful.”
For his efforts earning the Warrior Player of the Week, Gordon will receive a Warrior XP2-O head – a $120 value. Warrior is a proud sponsor of the MCLA.
