EUGENE, Ore. - The University of Oregon Men’s Lacrosse team is pleased to announce the promotion of Markus McCaine to head coach for the 2016-2017 season. McCaine served as the defensive coordinator for the Ducks last season, which went 11-3 (6-1 PNCLL).

Prior to his arrival in Eugene, McCaine served as the head coach at the University of Alabama for the 2014-2015 season, going 5-7 (2-3 SELC). He spent the 2013-2014 season as a defensive assistant coach at the University of Colorado, where he helped lead the Buffaloes to an 18-2 (4-0 RMLC) record and the 2014 National Championship.

As a player, McCaine spent three years at the University of Buffalo, where he was a defensive standout for the Bulls, who won back-to-back PCLL championships in 2011 and 2012.

Oregon mutually parted ways with former head coach Jon Bongiorno last week. Bongiorno, a long-time assistant, spent only one season as the head coach. The Ducks season ended sooner than expected after losing in the PNCLL championship game to rival Oregon State and not receiving an at-large bid to the MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour.

The Ducks will host one week of tryouts starting Monday, October 3, followed by Fall Ball through November.
