ATLANTA – After posting impressive numbers in two games on the Hurricanes west coast swing, Miami netminder Jacob Mentkowski is the Division II PEARL Goalie of the Week for the period ending Feb. 9.
Miami started the trip to SoCal with a matchup against Division I UCLA on Friday night. The Bruins pulled out the 15-13 victory, but Mentkowski put on a show. The Buffalo, N.Y., product stopped 28 shots for a 65.1 save percentage.
On Saturday, the Canes tangled with Loyola Marymount and thanks to another 20 stops from Mentkowski, Miami was able to pull out the 12-11 overtime victory. For the weekend, Mentkowski had a 64.9 combined save percentage.
“[Mentkowski] was nothing short of phenomenal this weekend,” said Miami coach Bryan Walsh. “He stood on his head for eight quarters against big competition on the other side of the country. Cubby has stepped into the starting role this season and has wildly exceeded expectations.”
As the recipient of the PEARL Goalie of the Week honor, Mentkowski will receive a PEARL swag bag of goodies that will include PEARL lacrosse balls – the official ball of the MCLA.
