MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota's men's lacrosse team will be competing in a new league in 2017 and the Gophers will have a strong schedule to announce their arrival.

Minnesota will play in the Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association (CCLA) in '17 after previously being a founding member of the Upper Midwest Lacrosse Conference (UMLC). As such, they will have six new conference opponents on the schedule, headlined by five-time CCLA champion Michigan State.

The non-conference slate features a blend of former and local rivals along with several national powers. The early-March sojourn to Colorado to face the Buffaloes and Colorado State is the premier non-league encounters, but Indiana and Boston College also have MCLA tournament aspirations.

With the demise of UMLC Division I last year, the Gophers operated essentially as an independet, posting an 8-5 record, which included a one-goal road loss to eventual national runner-up Cal Poly.
