ROUND ROCK, Texas - Utah Valley became just the second team in the history of the D-I tourney to win a first-round game as a No. 14 seed as they stunned No. 3 Chapman in double overtime, 7-6, in the first session of the 2024 MCLA National Championships presented by New Balance.
Chapman raced out to an early lead, but the Wolverines clawed their way back, eventually taking a fourth-quarter edge. Chapman tied it late, setting up the UVU victory.
In other action, top-seeded Brigham Young breezed past No. 16 past Michigan State, 19-4, while No. 2 Texas took care of No. 15 Simon Fraser, 17-4.
No. 4 Liberty avenged a regular season loss to No. 13 Northeastern, 11-6.
