ROUND ROCK, Texas -- No. 16 Bridgewater State gave top-seeded Air Force a run for its money, but the Falcons fought off a late-game Bears' run to capture the 13-11 victory. It was the closest Nos. 1-16 game since the D-II tournament expanded to 16 teams in 2010.
That was the most drama in the opening session of the D-II first round as the rest of the top seeds cruised to wins.
No. 2 St. Thomas was in a tie game with No. 15 Missouri State after one period, 6-6, but the Tommies were able to methodically pull away for the 22-13 victory.
All the drama came out of the contest between No. 3 Grand Valley State and No. 14 Montana game early, as the Lakers scored the first 10 goals of the game en route to a 19-5 triumph.
No. 13 Tulane hung around for a quarter with No. 4 Montana State before the Bobcats kicked it up a notch in the 14-3 win.
