ROUND ROCK, Texas -- No. 10 Kennesaw State pulled the only upset in the first round of the Division II tournament as they managed to subdue No. 7 Cal State San Marcos, 14-12, in the final D-II session of the day. The Owls looked in control for most of the evening, but a hard charge by the Cougars had to be thwarted.
More Owls, this time Florida Atlantic, also advanced, but this time as expected. No. 6 FAU used a second half surge and some quality defense to bounce No. 11 UC San Diego, 15-10.
One of this year's debutantes, No. 8 Northwest Nazarene, earned its first-ever tournament win by downing No. 9 UNC-Charlotte, 17-13.
No. 5 Rhode Island pulled away from No. 12 Coastal Carolina in the second half to post a 14-3 victory.
