ATLANTA – After leading Florida State to a pair of impressive victories, Seminoles senior netminder Sayre McMahon is the MCLA Division I PEARL Goalie of the Week for the period ending March 2.
Florida State opened the weekend on Friday night at a powerful Georgia outfit and the Southampton, N.Y., product came to play. He turned away 19 shots – good for a 82.6 save percentage – in an 11-4 triumph.
On Sunday, the Seminoles entertained Michigan State, the defending UMLC champion. Again, McMahon was a wall, finishing with another 19 stops in a 13-5 win.
For the weekend, McMahon had 38 saves and a save percentage of 80.9.
"Sayre has been a pivotal player for this team since his freshman season, and now as a senior, he’s proven himself as one of the best goalies in the nation,” said Florida State coach Jonas Clingerman. “After an outstanding performance over the weekend, he’s solidified his place at the top.”
“Throughout his career at FSU, he’s fluctuated between starting and backup roles, but his patience and strategic approach have paid off, securing his spot as the starter in his senior year.”
As the recipient of the PEARL Goalie of the Week honor, McMahon will receive a PEARL swag bag of goodies that will include PEARL lacrosse balls – the official ball of the MCLA.
