ST. LOUIS – Senior Greg Behning scored six goals and freshman Evan Sattler added four more, leading Purdue to a 14-8 victory over Miami (Ohio) in the Great Rivers Lacrosse Conference (GRLC) Division I championship game on Sunday at Washington (Mo.) University.
The win means Purdue (9-5) qualifies for the 2016 MCLA National Championships powered by Under Armour, which will take place in Orange County, Calif., from May 9-14. This will be the second-straight trip to nationals for the Boilermakers and the third overall. They will find out their seed and matchup this evening.
Since they had to defeat Indiana earlier in the day because yesterday’s second GRLC semifinal got postponed by weather to Sunday morning, it’s no surprise Miami (11-6) was a little sluggish coming out of the game. This allowed Purdue to race out to a 6-2 lead to start the game and lead 7-3 at halftime.
The lead expanded to as large as eight (14-6) before the Redhawks scored a couple late in the contest for the 14-8 final.
