SMU’S Maseker Grabs PEARL Honor

ATLANTA – After backstopping the Mustangs to a massive midseason upset, Southern Methodist senior netminder Declan Maseker is the MCLA Division I PEARL Goalie of the Week for the period ending March 30.

With second-ranked and undefeated Cal Poly in town on Thursday night, the Mustangs would need a massive performance from the Madison, N.J. native and they got it. Maseker turned away 25 of the 32 shots that came his way – a staggering 78.1 save percentage – as SMU logged the 14-7 stunner.

“The southpaw has been on fire as of late, but he has really been that way ever since he stepped on the field at SMU,” said Southern Methodist coach Eric Skeen. “His stoic demeanor sets the tone for how the defense deals with adversity.

“We're able to play a style of defense that allows for deep shot opportunities because we know he’s going to handle those. He gives us opportunities for victory game in and game out, and he’s never afraid to fight the bear.”

As the recipient of the PEARL Goalie of the Week honor, Maseker will receive a PEARL swag bag of goodies that will include PEARL lacrosse balls – the official ball of the MCLA.

Led the Gators to a big win over Georgia Tech by make 10 saves with a 55.6 save percentage.

Craig Morgan, Auburn
Had 33 saves and a combined save percentage of 67.3 in two huge wins for the Tigers.
