FORT WORTH, Texas - The Texas Christian University men's lacrosse team is proud to announce five captains for the 2018 season.
Senior midfielder John Ellis, senior defender Eric Goicoechea, junior goalie Ryan Lawton, junior long-stick midfielder Ethan Phillips and senior midfielder Caleb Staff will lead the Horned Frogs in their quest to win the Lone Star Alliance Division I championship.
Staff and Phillips are returning captains for TCU while Ellis, Goicoechea and Lawton enter their first season as captain.
"Coaches, captains and vice presidents, as a unit, provide the team with the vision and strategy, while also setting the foundation of the team chemistry," said TCU coach Mark Purcell. "One of the many reasons we had a successful year was our captains, who set the example of commitment, attitude, teamwork and level of play."
The Horned Frogs finished the 2017 season with an 8-6 mark, which included a trip to the LSA semifinals, where they narrowly lost to Oklahoma, 13-9.
Purcell is expecting this year's edition to build on last year's success.
"Our coaching staff is looking for student-athletes who can be mentored into leaders of men and who can be an extension of the coaching staff on and off the field," Purcell said. 'They must have the skill and will to earn the leadership from the team of players and be role models for the underclass players."
